2019 Teacher of the Year - Lisa DeFrese

On the evening of Wednesday, June 19, 2019, it was announced, in front of an excited audience, the "2019 Teacher of the Year:  Lisa DeFrese"!

Clayton Huey Principal, Mr. Dennis Ricci spoke these words of the nominee, "Mrs. DeFrese is a consummate professional.  She continuously goes out of her way to support her colleagues, communicate with parents, and most importantly, be there in every way imaginable for her students.  Her passion for education far exceeds the walls of her classroom. She is constantly looking for professional development opportunities to fine tune her craft and design engaging activities for her students.  I say her passion extends outside of the walls of her classroom quite LITERALLY as when you walk by her room, her students can even be seen designing seasonal window paintings to brighten our hallways and give her students a new and exciting ways to express themselves.
Like many of her colleagues, Mrs. DeFrese is also a risk taker. During our school’s exploration for the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme, she strongly pursued the opportunity to join several other colleagues at a training in St. Pete Beach, Florida. Not only did Mrs. DeFrese take this opportunity to develop her understanding of the PYP Programme, but upon her return, she spoke volumes to the rest of the staff about the amazing time that she had getting to know the other teachers she attended with on a much deeper level.
In the short time I have been in Center Moriches, I have come to know a few things: 1. Mrs. DeFrese is an advocate for quality education. She is passionate and dedicated to ensuring the best opportunities for her students. 2. She is caring. She has gone out of her way to support students throughout the Center Moriches community who need the love and attention that might be lacking in their lives. And 3. Mrs. DeFrese is HEROIC. She embodies our Huey’s heroes acronym of being Helpful, Ethical, Responsible, Openminded, takes Initiative, and is Caring.  In short is an honor to work along side such a dedicated educator. Thank you Mrs. DeFrese for all that you do for our students."

Congratulations Mrs. DeFrese!
