At recent Board of Education meetings, the Center Moriches School District named three new appointees for major openings in their District and school administration. Dr. Jaime Bottcher was named Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Data Management, Bruce Singer was appointed as the District’s new Interim Assistant Superintendent for Business, and Dr. Nicole Fernandez accepted the position of Clayton Huey Elementary School Principal.
Dr. Jaime Bottcher has worked in education on Long Island for close to 23 years. Most recently, she served as the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the Southampton School District since 2022. Prior, she was Principal of Southampton Elementary School for five years. Dr. Bottcher graduated from Stony Brook University with her Bachelor of Arts in 2002, her Master of Arts in December 2004, and an Educational Leadership Advanced Degree Certificate in August 2013. In June 2020, she received her Doctorate of Education from St. John’s University.
Center Moriches School District’s new Interim Assistant Superintendent for Business, Bruce Singer, has experience in school business and finances dating back to 1986. In that time, he has worked for six different New York school districts, five of which are on Long Island, and for the New York State Department of Education, showing an innate understanding of the needs of school districts and the taxpaying community members in our region. Most recently, Mr. Singer spent a year with the Mount Vernon City School District, monitoring their operations in all areas of budgeting and fiscal planning. He has served in administrative positions with the East Quogue, Sachem Central, Patchogue-Medford, Comsewogue, and Floral Park school districts. Mr. Singer received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Baruch College, his Masters of Business Administration from Adelphi University, and his School District Administrator Certificate from Long Island University.
Dr. Nicole Fernandez has eight years of school administration experience and more than 16 years of teaching experience. Most recently, she was the Principal of Southampton Elementary School since 2022 and the school’s Assistant Principal for a year prior to that. She also served as the Rocky Point School District’s K-12 English as a New Language (ENL) chairperson from 2015 to 2017 and the Director of Education at the Sylvan Learning Center from 2003 to 2005.
Dr. Fernandez also has deep experience in teaching, including more than 16 years as the ENL teacher at Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School in Rocky Point. She also has nine years of experience in higher education as an adjunct professor at St. John’s University from 2012 to 2019 and then at Stony Brook University until 2021. She received her Bachelor of Science from St. Joseph’s College in 1999, her Master of Science in Elementary Education from Long Island University in 2002, and her Doctorate of Educational Leadership and Technology from Dowling College in 2012.
