As the nation prepares to commemorate America’s 250th anniversary, Clayton Huey Elementary School, in the Center Moriches Union Free School District, hosted a special Flag Day assembly celebrating patriotism, citizenship, and national pride. The outdoor event brought together students, staff, families, and community members for a meaningful tribute to the American flag and the values it represents.

Students from each grade level sang patriotic selections, including “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “America the Beautiful,” showcasing their appreciation for the nation’s history through iconic songs.

The celebration also highlighted the winners of the school’s annual Flag Day poetry contest, with student from each grade selected for their outstanding work. The honored students proudly read their original poems aloud to the entire school community, sharing their thoughtful reflections on the meaning of freedom and the American flag.

The annual assembly reflects Clayton Huey Elementary School’s ongoing commitment to teaching students the importance of civic pride, honoring the sacrifices of veterans and service members, and fostering a deep appreciation for the country’s history. Through events such as
these, students are encouraged to recognize and celebrate the individuals and ideals that have helped shape the nation.

“Flag Day is an important opportunity for our students to reflect on the values that unite us as Americans and to recognize the sacrifices made by those who have served our country,” Dr. Nicole Fernandez, Clayton Huey Elementary School Principal, said. “As we look ahead to America’s 250th anniversary, we are proud to continue traditions that help encourage civic responsibility and respect for those who have helped preserve our freedoms.”
