EDSAFE AI Alliance District Policy Lab Grant

We are pleased to announce that Center Moriches School District has been selected for Cohort 3 of the EDSAFE AI Alliance District Policy Lab, a national initiative supported by Google. 

Over the next year, our District will work alongside education leaders from across the country to develop thoughtful, practical AI policies that reflect the unique needs and priorities of our school community. As AI continues to evolve, we are committed to approaching its use with intention, ensuring that technology serves as a tool to enhance effective teaching, meaningful learning, and the work of our educators.

Through the Policy Lab, District leaders will examine key considerations surrounding AI in education, including student data privacy, appropriate and effective uses of AI in instruction, safeguards for students and staff, and accountability when challenges arise. The initiative will provide a structured framework and peer network to help us thoughtfully evaluate these issues and establish clear guidelines for responsible AI use.

Clear communication will be an important part of this work. As we develop our approach to AI, we will prioritize transparency and ensure that educators, students, families, and the broader community understand how and why AI tools may be used in the educational setting. By establishing clear expectations and maintaining open communication, the District can help ensure that AI is implemented in a way that supports educators and strengthens the instructional experience for students.

Aligned with the SAFE Framework—Safety, Accountability, Fairness and Efficacy—the District’s goal is to build a strong foundation for the safe, responsible, and effective integration of AI into our school system. This work reflects our continued commitment to providing high-quality instruction, supporting our educators, and making thoughtful decisions that put students and their learning at the center.
