Congratulations to Center Moriches High School student Mackenzie Sweeney for being named an All-State musician. Sweeney will perform with the Symphony Orchestra on first horn. Additionally, Clara Tebbens was selected as an alternate on tenor saxophone with the Symphonic Band.

All-State musicians will perform at the New York State School Music Association 2024 Winter Conference in Rochester this December. The selected students are among the top high school musicians across the state.Date Added:

National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalist

Center Moriches High School student Chris Russo was named a semifinalist in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. Russo received this designation for being one of the 16,000 highest scorers of the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Semifinalists represent less than 1% of the nation’s graduating high school seniors.

Semifinalists must fulfill additional requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition before being considered for a scholarship. Nearly 95% of the program’s semifinalists are expected to move on in the competition.

Homecoming Weekend in Center Moriches

The Center Moriches school community kicked off homecoming weekend with a series of pep rallies held on Sept. 13. The festivities began with a pep rally at Clayton Huey Elementary School. Varsity athletes from the high school visited the building to get students excited about the weekend. The Clayton Huey band and chorus performed as their peers on the Center Moriches PAL football and cheerleading teams were introduced out on the field. The elementary cheerleaders then performed routines and displayed their Center Moriches pride.

Later in the afternoon, Center Moriches High School held its own pep rally. The fall season athletic teams were each introduced to the crowd while the marching band performed from the stands. Additionally, the homecoming court was introduced to the high school. Throughout the weekend, each of the fall sports teams played their own homecoming game. Additionally, Center Moriches High School held its annual bonfire and students marched in a homecoming parade. Across the district, Center Moriches pride was evident.
